Playing in the Attacking 1/4
FineSoccer Drills Newsletter - Playing in the Attacking 1/4
Today's featured activity works on attacking and defending in the last fourth of the field. This activity works best with 16 players including 2 keepers and uses 1/4th of a field with one full sized goal and two smaller goals.
Start with a keeper in goal, four backs and three attackers. There is another keeper and set of defenders along the sidelines and another group of attackers behind the two wide goals.
The three attackers on the field try to score on the big goal and the four defenders and keeper try to prevent this from happening. If the attackers score, they get another ball from up top and attack again and the defenders and keeper on the sideline replace the four defenders and keeper.
If the backs win the ball, they try to score on either wide goal. If the backs score, they stay on and three new attackers stay on the field.
The objective is to score as many goals as possible while allowing the fewest number of goals. It's an eight-minute game and then players switch roles so attackers become defenders and defenders become attackers (two players will have to remain as defenders for both turns).
The objective of this game is to have the attackers to concentrate on getting to goal and scoring and if they lose the ball, they are concentrating on high pressuring to not allow the backs to get to the wide goals. At the same time, the backs are working on maintaining their shape defensively while looking to work the ball out of the back under pressure when they win the ball.
