Coaches Corner

2. Multiple games on a given day

Post match rest is important to an athlete as long as he uses the time effectively.

  • Remove shoes shin guards and socks
  • Always air out and dry your shoes and guards. Always have a fresh pair of socks for every game
  • Wipe down your legs with clean damp cloth to remove sweat and salt that can clog pores and lead to fatigue of the muscles.
  • Stretch the legs light to medium intensity to break up the lactic acid in the tissues.
  • Do Not Sit in the car. This restricts the muscles from recovering effectively.
  • Rest lying down, but get up and take a brief walk to keep the blood flowing. About every 15 -20 minutes.
  • Take in plenty of Gatorade and water.
  • Eat about 30 minutes after the first match. Your body will be more ready to begin digestion at this time. Fruits bananas, oranges, apples and vegetables, lean roast beef, chicken, NO Burgers, Pizza or fried foods.
  • Do not eat within 1 hour prior to game time.
  • Avoid direct sun and heat.
  • Do not sit in air conditioning for prolonged periods.
  • Avoid horseplay. Injuries occur when you least expect them.

It would be beneficial to have some orange slices at half time.
